Gord's Gold: Oberammergau

Gord's Gold: Oberammergau

I stepped off of the train around sunset. I was in Oberammergau, Germany, and it was the end of the line. The train tracks ended at the snow-covered station there, and I was one of three or four people who got off the train, and I was the only person not carrying skis. I had on ski pants, a heavy down coat, gloves, a hat, and a rucksack with everything I would need for the next four days except food. I had no reservations, and the sun was setting fast.

My First Official 5K

Everyone has had the experience of waking up on a particular morning with a realization and a groan that something is happening on that day, something that they don’t want to do. I definitely woke up in such a manner this morning, and it was because today was 5k day. I signed up for a 5k over in Springfield way back in like, May or June, and today was event day. I wasn’t exactly spooked, but I was far from pumped.

To Zion Goes I?

To Zion Goes I?

I have done quite a bit of traveling in my day. I’ve lived in Europe and Asia, and I have visited parts of those places I didn’t live in, as well as Central America and lots of cool places here in the US. I have long said that I’m an itchy-footed vagabond at heart. My soul is restless, and I need a certain amount of adventure to feel content.

The Results of My Foray into Vegetarianism

You know, I love strawberries, but one of the things that I hate about them is that you have 53 hours or fewer to eat all of them out of the fridge before they start molding. I know, I know. You’re like me, and you have to ignore your doubts about snorting fridge mold. Or not. Work with me. I didn’t sleep much last night. Anyway, keeping fruit this time of year is a struggle, and now I have a crop of those stupid fruit flies that are hovering around the bananas.

Running This Shit: BADWATER

When I was in high school, I was fat. In fact, I topped out at the same weight I am today, minus about five pounds or so. I got sick of it, and I did the HMR program. I lost about 130 pounds, started running every day, lifting weights two to four days a week, and I went from a size 24 (in 2000 sizing) to a size 10/12. I looked awesome, and I was pretty fit.
